Alan Shearer has defended Match of the Day after Jeff Stelling blasted the BBC for a ‘terrible production decision’ on Saturday night’s show.
Former Sky Sports anchor Stelling, who hosts his own show on talkSPORT, was left fuming over how Match of the Day covered Newcastle’s win over West Ham.
Eddie Howe’s side beat the Hammers 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller which also saw Anthony Gordon sent off in a Premier League match packed with incidents.
Newcastle hero Shearer is a regular pundit on Match of the Day alongside Arsenal legend Ian Wright, while the show is usually presented by Gary Lineker.
But the latest MOTD episode was hosted by Alex Scott, who was joined by pundits Martin Keown and Stephen Warnock instead.
Stelling took issue with the trio failing to analyse Newcastle’s second penalty, scored by Alexander Isak after Kalvin Phillips’ foul on Gordon.
‘Interesting that MotD decided the second Newcastle pen was not worth discussing despite it being prob the most controversial decision of the weekend,’ Stelling posted on social media.
