Over the past week or so, reports from Italy have covered West Ham United?s interest in appointing Julen Lopetegui as their next manager. It was also stated the Spaniard has a rich offer from the Hammers but has been waiting for AC Milan.
On Monday, TuttoMercatoWeb stated the Serie A side?s fans aren?t in favour of the 57-year-old?s arrival and want a bigger name like Antonio Conte. This could favour West Ham in their pursuit of Lopetegui.
TMW?s claim of Milan supporters favouring Conte is echoed by today?s edition of Corriere della Sera, who also have a big claim on the Premier League side?s interest in Lopetegui.
The former Wolves manager had shown his appreciation for the Rossoneri, after meeting their leaders. He?s now waiting for the nod from the Italian club, but the report claims his popularity is decreasing at Milan. At the same time, West Ham have stepped up their efforts in the last few hours as it?s claimed they have ?economically doubled? their offer to the manager.
That may be Corriere della Sera exaggerating a little because if AC Milan fans get their way, as seems quite possible, and Lopetegui doesn’t arrive then there’s absolutely no need for West Ham to double their financial offer to the manager.
The West Ham move looks likelier down to the fact that Milan fans are protesting, and that rather than money could be the advantage the Hammers need.
