West Ham United may be handed another chance to sign Steven Bergwijn in the summer, with Ajax anticipating a departure.
That?s according to Voetbal International, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, who say the attacker would like to move away from the Netherlands once again.
The article states: ‘It is expected that Steven Bergwijn will make his desired transfer abroad’ in the summer transfer window after he received offers in January.
West Ham United, as well as Saudi-Arabian side Al-Ettifaq, are the two sides who were believed to be keen, but a deal wasn?t done, and he remained at Ajax until the end of the season.
The growing expectation, though, is that he will be moving on as Ajax plan for a complete rebuild in the summer under new director of football Alex Kroes. They?re in a strong position when it comes to Bergwijn as he has a contract until 2027, meaning they can ?ask for a hefty transfer fee? for the winger.
Whether West Ham are willing to pay a big fee for the Dutchman remains to be seen, but their interest is certainly a long-standing one.
They?ve been consistently linked with a move since last summer, when they signed Bergwijn?s former teammates Edson Alvarez and Mohamed Kudus from Ajax and were credited with interest throughout January.
With the Dutch side now anticipating an exit it does suggest there?s a deal to be done if they want it and Ajax?s demands don?t prove to be too high.
