West Ham offer to manager not as big as from Qatar – Hammers were rejected, having been moving for months
It seems Ruben Amorim isn’t the first Portuguese manager that West Ham United try to sign to take David Moyes’ place.
According to ESPN Brasil, the Hammers had already tried to bring Abel Ferreira to the club back in January.
The outlet claims that the Palmeiras boss turned down West Ham’s offer, and ended up staying in Brazil, where he signed a contract extension until December 2025.
The Hammers’ attempt was made just after Ferreira rejected Al Sadd, and according to ESPN Brasil, the London side’s offer wasn’t ‘even close’ to the Qatari side.
West Ham then ended up keeping David Moyes in the job, and are now on the search again. Abel Ferreira had been a manager at Braga and PAOK before arriving in Palmeiras in November 2020. Since then, he’s been having a very successful spell, winning two Brazilian leagues, two Copa Libertadores and one Brazilian cup.
He’d definitely be an interesting target for any Premier League club, but it seems he’s not ready to make a move to Europe just yet.
