West Ham player wins award with ‘almost twice as many’ votes’ as rival – Edging into historic status
Tomá? Sou?ek has been a regular for both West Ham United and the Czech Republic over the past few years and his performances have been rewarded.
On Monday, the midfielder won the Czech Republic Men?s Footballer of the Year award for the third time.
Today?s MF Dnes is focusing on the West Ham star?s latest achievement, after winning the same award in 2019 and 2020.
The 29-year-old received 903 votes, which is ?almost twice as many? as Sparta Prague?s Ladislav Krej?Ã, who finished second with 509 votes. His teammate at West Ham, VladimÃr Coufal, ended up in third spot with 363 votes.
He’s played every minute for the Czech Republic since their 2-1 defeat to Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League in September 2022. Sou?ek is also a key player for David Moyes? side at West Ham, with whom he won the UEFA Conference League last season.
MF Dnes aren?t surprised that the West Ham player has comfortably won the award.
He?s now only behind Pavel Nedv?d [won it four times], Ivo Viktor [five times] and Chelsea legend Petr ?ech with a record nine times.
Sou?ek is edging towards a historic status with the national team and if he were to continue impressing, he could match Nedv?d?s record next year.
