Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has a verbal agreement to join Fluminense, according to the freshest reports from Brazil.
Following years of rumours about the centre-back’s return to the Tricolor, outlet Goal Brasil today writes that the player has ‘everything agreed’ to sign a contract.
Silva’s contract with Chelsea expires in June, and it’s ‘already decided’ he’s not signing a new deal with the Stamford Bride side, becoming free to join Fluminense.
Goal claims that following this ‘positive outcome’, the Rio de Janeiro side are willing to announce the signing soon.
It’s added that Fluminense manager Fernando Diniz has been rejecting potential centre-backs, as he’s been waiting for Silva to join. The defender, who turns 40 in September, has a long history with Fluminense, and always teased about a comeback to retire at the Brazilian club.
Silva joined Chelsea on a free move from Paris Saint Germain in the summer of 2020. With 149 appearances for the Blues so far, he’s won a Champions League and a Club World Cup in his time with the club.
