“Forget everything else” – Everton player sends rallying cry, relegation ‘unthinkable’, tells teammates to focus
Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has urged the club and his teammates to forget everything going on around them and just focus on avoiding relegation.
The Senegal midfielder has been quoted by Le Quotidien about the situation at Goodison Park as Everton find themselves deep in a relegation battle once again.
Sean Dyche?s side currently sit 16th in the table and just two points ahead of Luton in 18th, although they do have a game in hand over the Hatters at this point in time.
The Toffees should be far clearer than they currently are, but two separate points deductions for PSR breaches have seen them deducted eight points in total.
That, coupled with a record run of games without a win between December and April means the club haven’t really been able to get themselves away from trouble at any point. The noise outside of the club has been hard to ignore for some time, with the points deductions and PSR breaches also intertwined with a drawn-out takeover proposal from American firm 777 Partners.
Gueye has urged his Everton teammates to ignore that, though, and simply focus on matters on the pitch to avoid dropping into the Championship.
?We need to get back to what we can do best and get wins on the board, always giving everything for the club,? he said.
