Chelsea legend Frank Lampard emerges as shock candidate for international job

Frank Lampard is reportedly on the shortlist to become the new manager of the Canada national team.
The Chelsea legend has been out of work since last summer after his disastrous interim stint at Stamford Bridge came to an end.
Lampard is keen on returning to the dugout but is waiting for the right opportunity, and it is not known if a job overseas would appeal to him.
According to The Telegraph, Canada having shortlisted the 45-year-old as their search continues for a new head coach who will lead the team into the 2026 World Cup.
It is a huge tournament for the country who are co-hosting alongside the USA and Mexico.
Currently, Mauro Biello is acting as Canada’s interim head coach having been assistant to John Herdman who held the job from 2018 to 2023 when he resigned to take charge of Toronto FC.
Englishman Herdman guided the North American team to only their second ever World Cup finals at Qatar 2022, where they were knocked out at the group stage despite some spirited performances.

While one of the greatest players of his generation, Lampard’s managerial career has yet to take off after mixed to poor spells at Derby County, Chelsea and Everton.
