The Rossoneri threw away their good form and created lots of pressure for themselves. AC Milan were left stunned by Daniele de Rossi and his AS Roma side at the San Siro in the first leg of the Europa League quarter finals. The outfit from the capital took a slender 1-0 victory thanks to a set piece but Milan should be worried as the side looked flat and uninspired despite a big opportunity for silverware and to save the season after lots of disappointments.
There were numerous horrible performance from the Rossoneri with Rafael Leao lethargic, Olivier Giroud wasteful, Ruben Loftus-Cheek anonymous and Christian Pulisic banal. But the biggest let down was Stefano Pioli whose ideas are stale and whose management is worn out. De Rossi outcoached Pioli for this game neutralising our left wing threat and filling up the space by strict positioning. The set piece goal was a textbook Milan fail and Roma knew to exploit this. The return fixture at the Stadio Olimpico is next Thursday and there is a lot of work to be done by Milan. Yacine Adli and Samuel Chukwueze deserve much more time as they were the only ones who looked exciting and able to find a breakthrough on the night.
