Southampton?s decision to send Carlos Alcaraz to Juventus on loan in January doesn?t look like the good deal it was presented as.
Gazzetta dello Sport cover the player today and how his loan deal hasn?t worked out how he, Southampton or Juventus would have hoped.
They explain that Alcaraz has two months left to convince the Italian club that he is worth buying on a permanent basis as they have an option to do so at the end of his loan deal.
That option is set at ?49.5m and Juventus plan to discuss those terms again at the end of the season with Southampton.
Alcaraz wants to continue with the Italian giants and has shown ?complete willingness? on that front but the reality is that his performances so far have not convinced them to spend such a big sum on him. In fact, Gazzetta say it is ?probable? that a new loan deal will be negotiated that would also see Juventus negotiate the purchase clause downwards.
Now, whether Southampton would accept that is up for debate, particularly if they manage to secure a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The reality, though, is that Juventus don?t look likely to spend the figure Southampton initially set out in Alcaraz?s loan deal and frankly that agreement isn?t looking as great as some thought it did initially.
