Villa draw with Everton to stay third in the Premier League
Aston Villa missed the opportunity to go joint top of the Premier League today as their game against Everton at Goodison Park ended goalless.
Judging by the reaction on social media this evening, you would think Villa were relegated but some perspective is needed. Although it is nice to be in a position where people are discussing Villa in a title race, the reality is we are in a battle to be the best of the rest and try and break into the top 4-5 stronghold in the Premier League.
It is also worth pointing out that Goodison Park is one of the hardest grounds to visit in the Premier League and they always give their opposition a game. If you asked me before the game today I would have taken a point.
One final thing and this is directed at pundits. Roy Keane is not alone in this statement stated today that Villa have been lucky to not have injuries. Villa were missing eight first-team players against Burnley and nine today against Everton. Every Premier League side has had injury issues this season so stop using it as an excuse and get on with it. The difference some clubs can come with injuries better than others, Villa have shown they miss certain players in recent games but that is where we are right now as a football club. Rant over, now onto the game.
