Liverpool have announced that Richard Hughes will become the club’s new sporting director after leaving his role at AFC Bournemouth.

The 44-year-old Scotsman will get started at the end of the current season having been appointed by Michael Edwards.

Hughes joined Bournemouth’s recruitment team under Eddie Howe after calling time on his playing career in 2014 and worked his way up to technical director.

But he is now set to swap the Vitality Stadium for Anfield and Hughes cannot wait to get started in his new job.

‘I am incredibly proud to be offered this opportunity,’ Hughes told the Liverpool website on Wednesday.

‘Liverpool FC is a unique club and I?m grateful to be given a chance to serve it in this capacity.
‘People rightly talk about the rich history this organisation can boast, but it is the present and future which really excites me.
