‘Nothing is decided’ – Everton have ‘nothing to gain’ from transfer formula and hold the power.
Everton?s Amadou Onana is of interest to Arsenal this month but ?nothing is decided? and the power is very much in Everton?s hands at this moment in time.
That?s according to La DH Les Sports+, who say Everton have ?nothing to gain? from the current transfer formulas being bandied around.
Reports yesterday claimed that Arsenal and Everton were locked in talks over a move for the midfielder, who was keen on making it should it be offered.
DH Net now cover the situation and explain that Arsenal are on the hunt for a midfielder as Jorginho?s contract expires in the summer, as does Mohamed Elneny?s and Thomas Partey is likely to be sold at that point too as he?ll be in the final year of his deal.
The latter has proven to be important to their system and Mikel Arteta is yet to find a way to replace him and Onana could be it. On the face of it that move ?seems to suit all parties? but the feasibility of it is another matter. For a start, Everton would demand more than ?50m for the midfielder, who cost ?35m to sign from Lille in August 2022.
Such a sum would help Everton to further balance the books.
However, Arsenal are also on the limit when it comes to FFP, with DH claiming a negative balance of ?471m over the last three years thanks to big transfers in and a failure to sell players well.
Arteta has already hinted that they are limited in this window and there is nobody in the squad to sell this month that would help them raise the money for Onana.
Instead, they?d have to look ...
