Club set to request ?15-25m from Liverpool – Release clause only valid in 2025
For all the Liverpool fans who’ve been following Xabi Alonso’s situation at Bayer Leverkusen, the German media now shares some fresh updates on what’s happening at the Bundesliga side.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg, often focusing on Bayern Munich’s interest, first claims that the manager is ‘open’ to switching German clubs in the summer.
Now what should be of Liverpool’s interest is the cost that taking him from Bayer Leverkusen would be.
It’s claimed that Alonso has no release clause at the Bundesliga side this summer. It’d take some negotiation for that, and ‘all parties’ believe they’d demand between ?15m and ?25m. The coach’s contract with Bayer runs until 2026, and it’s only in the summer 2025 that he’ll have a release clause, standing at ?15m.
On Wednesday morning, it was reported that Liverpool ‘submitted a request’ to Alonso’s agent, as they have him as number one manager to replace Jürgen Klopp in the summer.
Bayer Leverkusen, however, are confident that the coach will turn down the Reds’ approach and stay there. That’s why they would be tough when negotiating his exit.
