It appears that Jorg Schmadtke, who left his role as Liverpool?s sporting director at the end of January, is being looked at for a new job elsewhere.
He wouldn?t be returning to Anfield, but a report in the Hamburger Morgenpost, relayed by Fussball Transfers, reveals that the 60-year-old is being considered by HSV?s supervisory board.
Currently back to being retired after leaving Liverpool, working at the 2.Bundesliga side would be one of the ?interesting tasks? Schamdtke would come back to the world of football for.
The job is currently taken by Jonas Boldt, but if they fail to gain promotion back to Germany?s top tier, then the club are prepared to move on. Schmadtke knows German football well, as he has held roles at Hannover 96, 1. FC Köln and VfL Wolfsburg before his job at Liverpool, but it?s made clear there has not yet been ?any concrete contact? between HSV and the 60-year-old.
Should HSV end up being promoted, then Boldt could keep his job, meaning the ex-Liverpool man will be keeping an eye on the situation going forward, knowing that failure in that task could see him return to football earlier than anticipated.
