Borussia Dortmund director of football Sebastien Kehl has hinted that they remain frustrated by Erling Haaland?s move to Manchester City, knowing they could have got more from it.
The director is quoted by Fussball News today from an interview with Sport 1, in which Haaland?s move to Manchester City is discussed.
The striker joined Manchester City in a ?60m deal in July 2022 after a prosperous two year stay with Dortmund following a ?20m move in January 2020.
He managed a staggering 86 goals and 23 assists in 89 games for the club, establishing himself as one of the elite level players in the game despite his age.
Such numbers would normally guarantee a huge transfer fee, but Dortmund had agreed a release clause with the player and his agents, Mino Raiola no less, meaning that he could leave for ?60m in 2022. Manchester City eventually took advantage of that, winning the race for his signature that summer and securing the striker, whilst having to pay additional amount to others involved in the deal.
That?s certainly proved to be money well spent as he?s continued to develop into a world superstar with 80 goals and 15 assists in 84 games for the club in all competitions to date.
His deal at the Etihad also reportedly includes a release clause, something Kehl clearly wishes hadn?t been agreed to at Dortmund.
“With Haaland you could certainly have earned twice as much if he hadn’t had this exit clause,” he is quoted as saying.
