Girona’s great La Liga campaign has now reached a crucial time, as they’ll soon be confirming whether they’ll have a place in the Champions League next season.
As they have a big weekend game against Barcelona, newspaper La Vanguardia now interviews one of their shareholders, Pere Guardiola.
The brother of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is the administrative council president at Girona, and is undoubtedly very proud of what the club have been achieving lately.
It turns out the interview even had a question about Míchel, who’s the manager of the La Liga side, joining the Premier League club in the future. It all started with Pere being asked about the coach’s contract, which runs until 2026.
“I hope he can stay with us for many more years. It will mean that we are achieving our objectives. Our priority is that he feels happy, committed and that he sees that from the club we give him all the tools so that he can do the job as well as he has done so far. We have to work to bring him players of a level that he can exploit as he knows how. If we achieve that, Míchel will be with us for many years. We don’t have to think beyond that.” Then he was directly asked if Míchel could be the replacement for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
“I think that Míchel has the level to coach big clubs, and we are one of them. Girona are a great club (laughs).”
