“I hope there’s no disappointment” – Manager doesn’t want any ‘conflict’ over decision regarding Tottenham signing
Despite being the subject of an upcoming move to Tottenham Hotspur, in a ?10m deal, DjurgÃ¥rden midfielder Lucas Bergvall couldn’t make it to the national team this time.
The youngster had made his international debut back in January, but was now left out of the list, and that’s making some noise in the Swedish media.
Outlet Sportbladet is covering the situation, and now brings some quotes from the two sides of that story.
Bergvall himself, who’s waiting to join Tottenham in the summer, claimed he wasn’t called by manager Jon Dahl Tomasson to talk about his absence, and then made clear he’s not too concerned.
“It’s absolutely fun in case I came along, but was nothing I expected. It depends on how you perform and it’s up to them in the end.” As U-21 manager Daniel Bäckström also commented on the situation, he explained he hopes it doesn’t affect the player.
“I hope there is no disappointment at the same time, I am convinced that we have many players who dream of taking the step up. I don’t think those things need be in conflict with each other. Dreaming and aiming is useful while being able to be here now and perform, that’s how football works.”
Playing for Djurgården this season, Bergvall has two goals and four assists in five appearances. Those are definitely not bad numbers, but Tomasson certainly has his reasons to keep the midfielder out of the squad.
