Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou are now very settled with each other, but the appointment wasn’t always an obvious one.
Following Antonio Conte’s departure, Spurs had interims Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason in charge while they looked for a full-time coach.
Feyenoord boss Arne Slot had been one of the options, according to reports at the time. And now outlet 1908 shares an interesting story about that, with former Tottenham player Rafael van der Vaart commenting on the possibility.
At the time, it had been said that the Dutch coach was keen on staying at the Eredivisie side. The ex-midfielder, though, doesn’t believe that.
“I don’t think so, at least that I know of. Spurs have chosen a different path, I know that. Although I would have liked Slot to have made it, because my Spurs heart says that club needs a coach like that,’ van der Vaart told NOS. “If Tottenham say ‘you will be it and you will get this and this and this’, you just go. Slot too. I think they wanted all of Feyenoord at the time. Te Kloese had also been asked, but he had really said ‘no'”.
Van der Vaart also talked a little about Postecoglou, praising the job he’s done at Tottenham so far.
“That’s a really nice guy. He did well at Celtic and is doing really well at Tottenham now too.”
