Last month, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed they agreed a deal with Djurgårdens IF Fotboll for Lucas Bergvall to arrive at the club in the summer.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a good start to the Swedish league season so far, scoring two goals and registering four assists from four matches.
Having made his debut for the national team in a friendly against Estonia in January, reports in his country had indicated new Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson could include Bergvall in the squad for this month?s international break.
The Tottenham signing didn?t receive a call up and speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Bergvall said he wasn?t expecting it either.
When asked what was his expectation before Jon Dahl Tomasson announced the squad on Wednesday, he said: ?Nothing special. It would definitely have been fun if I came along but it was nothing I expected.? Instead, the incoming Tottenham player is picked for the Sweden U21 side to face Cyprus in a friendly and North Macedonia in the UEFA U21 European Championship qualifiers later this month.
The youngster showed a lot maturity in rising above what could have been a disappointing moment and insisted that he?s focused on the key fixture with Sweden U21.
?It is up to the staff. It’s not something I put energy into. We have a nice European Championship qualification with the U21 now and that’s what I focus on,? Bergvall explained.
At the same time, the teenager is keen on convincing Jon Dahl Tomasson in the future.
