Tottenham ‘intensely’ wanted to sign 25-year-old – Levy was never able to break ?25m ‘stubbornness’ from club
Before Tottenham decided to spend big on Radu Dragusin in January, another centre-back had been targeted by Ange Postecoglou.
On the face of it, it was a relatively easy deal to pull off, since Victor Nelsson, at Galatasaray, had a release clause in his contract.
That was set at ?25m, but it?s a fee Tottenham never put on the table, as explained by Aksam on Thursday as they cover claims from England about West Ham being interested in the defender.
They recall that Spurs were ?interested? in the 25-year-old last summer and wanted him ?intensely?, which was well covered at the time, but Daniel Levy ?could not break the stubbornness? of the Turkish side. That?s because they wanted ?25m for a transfer, which they never received, and the player was begrudgingly forced to stay in Turkey for the current season.
Had the deal gone through, it would have been the third piece of business between Galatasaray and Tottenham that summer, as Davinson Sánchez was sold to the Süper Lig giants and Tanguy Ndombele was then loaned to them, with both deals working out very differently.
