“I see it as my best period” – Van der Vaart explains why he loved playing for Tottenham so much

If there?s one thing we can be sure of, it?s that Rafael Van der Vaart really enjoyed his time at Tottenham.
Limited as it may have been, the Dutch midfielder?s spell in London was probably the favourite in his career, as he explained to Voetbal International in a very long interview.
Discussing the entirety of his career, the now retired 35-year-old opened up about moving to White Hart Lane, having left Real Madrid coming off the back of a defeat to Spain in the 2010 World Cup final.
He said: ?At Tottenham, week by week, we were only playing top games, at a killer pace with a team that played a fantastic amount of football. A place where I could be important with goals and assists.

?I see it as my best period. The interaction with players like Modric and Bale, who ran like a train. In that environment, football isn?t an effort.” During his spell in England, Van der Vaart made 77 appearances for Tottenham, scored 28 goals and picked up 18 assists before being sold to Hamburg in the Bundesliga, where he stayed for three seasons.
After that, a brief spell at Real Betis followed before quickly moving onto Danish football, where he featured for FC Mitdjylland and Esbjerg fB.
He retired from football on November 4th of this year.
