Antoine Griezmann announces shock retirement from international action with France

It comes after 137 appearances for Les Bleus Atlético Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann surprised France with his announcement on Monday morning that he would be retiring from international duty with the French team.
The decision comes after Griezmann joined Olivier Giroud in third-place for the most appearances for France on 137, only five fewer than Lilian Thuram and eight behind leading man Hugo Lloris on 145.
Griezmann is also the fourth-highest scoring player in French history with 44 goals. That leaves him four behind his team-mate at international level, Kylian Mbappé, seven behind former FC Barcelona man Thierry Henry and 13 behind Olivier Giroud in first place on 57 goals.

The man for the big occasion
If French fans can have any complaints about Griezmann?s contribution to his national team, it certainly can?t relate to his displays at tournament level.
The 2014 World Cup was his first taste at the biggest stage, starting three games as a poor France team crashed out at the quarter-final stage to Germany.
