Looking Around the League: Freiburg?s Post-Streich Era Off to a Flying Start

The Bundesliga delivered plenty of action over the weekend, with four or more goals scored in 55% of fixtures across the league. We are just four games into the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, and the unbeaten teams have narrowed down to three?Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Union Berlin?while just Bayern Munich maintain a perfect record. The top of the Bundesliga table is starting to take a familiar shape, with Bayern in first place and reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen three points behind them in second. However, focusing only on the league table can give the impression that the Bundesliga is very predictable. That certainly wasn?t the case over the weekend, with plenty of drama and a whopping 35 goals scored across all games (an average of ~4 goals a game). Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg dished up seven of those 35 goals in a ridiculous 4-3 thriller that got off to a great start with a silly own goal in the first five minutes and kept going at the same pace for the entire game.
Of course, it?s not a Leverkusen game without a late Leverkusen goal that snatches all three points when all hope is lost. As was so often the case last season, Leverkusen grabbed the winner in stoppage time, but they were not ?lucky? to win. They dominated the game and were unfortunate to find themselves heading into stoppage time level. However, there?s no quit in this Leverkusen team, and they got the job done with seconds to spare....
