Match Ratings: More Away Disappointment Against Union

Another round of poor performances. Fresh from a 7-1 thumping of Scottish champions Celtic, Dortmund looked well set to take on Union Berlin away in the capital. Bo Svensson has put together a pragmatic, well-drilled side that came into the tie with the second-best defensive record in the league, having conceded a miserly three goals in five games.
Dortmund came into this one missing midweek hat-trick hero Karim Adeyemi, as well as Duranville and Reyna, and Sahin opted to field Maximilian Beier in the wide position. Unfortunately for us, Union Berlin turned out to be well-organised and uninterested in hitting the self-destruct button (unlike our Champions League opponents), and we headed into half time down two goals and having had just one shot on target. No subs were made at half, and our general performance level did not improve until Julian Ryerson curled home a wonderful goal to halve the arrears and some substitutions were made.
