Post Match Reaction: Dortmund unconvincing, but Battle past St. Pauli 2-1

If there?s one thing I?ve gotten used to in recent seasons, it?s Borussia Dortmund struggling against recently-promoted teams. In theory, the home games against the two newly promoted teams should be the easiest of the season to win, but still Dortmund struggled to get the job done. They did it, and earned three points, but this wasn't the dominant display that BVB should be able to produce, especially in their home stadium. I?ll try to make sense of some of this through my observations.
Sahin, what?s the objective" One of the reasons I enjoy writing these post-match reactions because I like breaking down the game?s tactics, but Nuri Sahin is making that difficult. I can?t decipher the game-plan, and, perhaps that can also be reflected in the players each match. I?ve written about this fluid system Sahin has tried to employ up front, but today that concept was scrapped in favor of a traditional system. Guirassy was the number nine, with Brandt the ten, Malen and Sabitzer on the wings, and Emre Can and Groß as the double-pivot. I think this reversion in the front is a necessary decision because the players have looked far too confused in recent weeks.
