Post Match Reactions: Five-Goal First Half Pushes BVB Past Celtic

Only a few days ago, things couldn?t have been going worse for Borussia Dortmund. Following a deceptively mediocre performance against Club Brugge, the club had just suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss to VfB Stuttgart that only served to magnify BVB fans? concerns. Even as near as Friday afternoon, when Dortmund fell down 2-0 to Bochum in the first 30 minutes, the mood at the club was dark.
Now, at least for the time-being, those feelings are dead and buried. Nuri Sahin and his squad built on their comeback win against Bochum with a performance against Celtic today that can only be described as an absolute ass-whooping. One momentary defensive lapse aside, Dortmund were the dominant side from start to finish. Celtic, who often did themselves no favors defensively, had no answer for the wave after wave of attacks featuring Serhou Guirassy, Julian Brandt, Julian Ryerson, Yan Couto, Jamie Gittens, and above all, Karim Adeyemi. It took less than 10 minutes for Dortmund to strike first, with Jamie Gittens taking advantage of a lucky bounce and charging into the box, outrunning Celtic?s back line and dinking the ball past keeper Kasper Schmeichel, who stuck an arm out to clip Gittens leg and bring him down. Emre Can easily converted the ensuing penalty.
