Former Burnley striker Dan Agyei has turned down a new contract at League Two club Crewe Alexandra and signed a two-year deal with newly promoted League One.
Agyei was the third highest goalscorer in League Two last season for Crewe, netting sixteen in his only full season at Gresty Road. It left him in demand and he?s taken the opportunity to move up a league and return to London.
It was eight years ago that we signed Agyei from Wimbledon when he was just eighteen but it was at Coventry where he made his league debut at the start of his second Burnley season. He went there on loan and came back with a glowing tribute from their manager Tony Mowbray.
On his return, he three times came on as a substitute for us in Premier League season, the first two on Merseyside against Liverpool and Everton and then at home against Manchester United. But it was back on the road again in 2017/18 with loans at Walsall and then Blackpool. Remaining at Burnley in 2018/19 season, he scored no fewer than 24 goals for the under-23s in the league and cups but at the end of that season he made the decision to turn down a new deal and moved to Oxford.
It never quite worked for him at Oxford in two and a half years which led to a move to Crewe in January last year. After a quiet second half to the 2021/22 season, things picked up last season with the goals and that?s led to this move.
He said after completing the move: ?I?m the one that likes to dribble with the ball, beat players and create chances...
