Another week of league and cup success for the under-21s

A week ago we were able to report on success in both league and cup for our under-21 team and that can be repeated this week after we followed up a cup win against Brighton with further league success against Barnsley.
In front of a Turf Moor crowd last Saturday, we recorded a 2-0 win against Brighton to make it two wins out of two in the Premier League Cup. Tuesday night brought another league win, this time a 3-1 victory against Barnsley after we came from behind with goals from Joe Bauress, Vernon Masara and João Mendes.
That win has taken us up to second in the Professional Development League?s north group although a long way behind current leaders Sheffield United and knowing that Hull would only need to win one of two games in hand to go ahead of us. It was derby day in South Yorkshire with the league leaders beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Bramall Lane with both goals scored by last season?s leading scorer Louie Marsh. Apparently they didn?t play well, that?s according to coach Gary McSheffrey, but it means they end the week with an eight point advantage at the top and having played one less game than us.
Hull didn?t have a game but in the north there were also wins for Crewe, Coventry and Fleetwood . It?s Coventry?s win against Birmingham two days ago that warrants special mention. The Sky Blues had started the week in bottom place with one win and five defeats from just six games played.
