Trip to Wigan for the under-21s

Our in form under-21s, on the back of four successive wins and seven wins in eight, are back in action this afternoon with an away game against Wigan Athletic.
Having had a difficult start to the season which brought just two points from the first four games, the team has lost only once since, and that at leaders Sheffield United where we were beaten 1-0 on the first day of this month.
Two of the wins have come in the cup, but the other positive results have lifted us into second place in the table although aware that the three teams directly below us all have two games in hand with Hull, in third place, the one team who can move ahead of us should they win one of those two games.
Our opponents Wigan are currently bottom of the north group. Like us they have played ten games but they have just five points from one win and two draws. All but one of their points came in the early season north/south clashes. They drew 1-1 at home against Brentford and won 4-1, again at home, against Colchester. More recently they picked up their fifth point in a 1-1 draw at Crewe. Last time, just a week ago, they were beaten 2-0 at Fleetwood having lost their most recent home game 3-2 against Sheffield United a week earlier with Harrison Bettoni and James Knott scoring the Wigan goals.
