Juventus fail to put Cagliari away and pay the price

Juve?s inability to finish their opponents off let them hang around long enough for one mistake to cost them points. Games like this drive me nuts.
Games against provincial sides where Juventus takes a lead, then fails, either through coaching decisions or a lack of clinical finishing (or both) to extend that lead, leaving a team they have pretty well dominated throughout the entire game that one tiny bit of rope that lets them pull themselves out of the deep end.
While the absolute stupidity that was Douglas Luiz?s tackle on Roberto Piccoli was certainly the direct cause of the penalty that let Cagliari run out of the Allianz with a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon, it was the inability to put the Isolani away that let it get to that point. It?s not as if there weren?t opportunities. Cagliari started the game playing an unexpectedly high defensive line, and had to open up even more after Dusan Vlahovic?s penalty 15 minutes in. But as the game went on and Juve continued to waste chances ? especially Vlahovic?s inexplicable miss 10 minutes before the Cagliari penalty ? they teetered more and more on the tightrope. And eventually, it left them in a situation where one single mistake would cost them dearly. And then one did.
While it is ultimately valid to say that Juventus would have won this game had they simply not been stupid, it?s equally correct to say that they never should have been in a position...
