For all Juventus? inconsistent play this season, they?d still avoided defeat through their first 10 games in all competitions. But it was inevitable that Juve would eventually lay an egg and lose a game.

On Tuesday night, a Juventus that was still shorthanded through injuries welcomed VfB Stuttgart to the J Stadium, and were promptly played off their own patch. The German side was completely superior to Juve in every way. Thiago Motta got his initial tactics wrong, and Stuttgart dominated possession and took the Bianconeri defense apart with alarming regularity. Only the immense performance of Mattia Perin in goal kept this game from getting out of hand very quickly. Juve?s No. 2 keeper, playing for the suspended Michele Di Gregorio, channeled Gigi Buffon as he made nine saves, including a late penalty, before Al-Bilal Touré ran a give-and-go with Enzo Millot ? who had just missed the penalty ? and took a fantastic touch to turn Pierre Kalulu around before rifling the ball home from a tight angle to give Stuttgart a deserved lead two minutes into stoppage time.
