When Juventus first signed Mattia Perin in 2018 just a few weeks after Gianluigi Buffon?s first tenure in Turin came to an end, he was thought of to be competition for Wojciech Szczesny. The competition never really materialized, more because of how well Szczesny played from the get-go as Juve?s new staring goalkeeper rather than how Perin performed.

That?s because the contract extension that Perin hinted at during Monday?s pre-match press conference ahead of Juventus? Champions League fixture against Stuttgart arrived two days later.
