Ajax?s Steven Bergwijn has previously insisted he wants to return to the Premier League at some point, as Leicester City continue to be linked with a move.
Voetbal International provide comments from journalist Lentin Goodijk today, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, about Bergwijn and his ambitions to return to England.
The winger has been linked with a move to Leicester throughout the summer as they continue to target signings to bolster Steve Cooper?s squad before the end of the window.
At the moment a deal isn?t progressing, despite Ajax being keen to sell and get Bergwijn?s wages off of their books.
There have been several suggestions that might be because of Bergwijn, the idea being that he had planned, or hoped, to join a bigger club than Leicester if he were to move on from Ajax this summer. That would certainly not be surprising, with reports back in January and afterwards suggesting that Bayern Munich had explored the possibility of a move.
Goodijk confirms as much, revealing what he was told by Bergwijn when he made the move o Ajax two years ago.
“When he came, he said: two years at Ajax and then I want to go to a bigger competition again. He once said to me that he wants to return to the Premier League one day. That is a wonderful competition,? the journalist reported.
“He may aim higher than Leicester City, but it also depends on the situation of the competition. Of course, he wants to play and at Tottenham he has been on the bench more than he would have ...
