Donny van de Beek will not be joining Lorient with the Ligue 1 side now shifting focus to former Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The Netherlands international remains out of favour at Manchester United and has been told he is free to leave before the summer transfer window closes on Friday.

On Thursday, United accepted a loan offer from Lorient with the Premier League side hoping to bring in a replacement in the form of Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat.

However, van de Beek appears to have rejected the move to France with RMC Sport reporting the proposed deal is off.

Lorient are still determined to bring in a midfield option and have now turned to Bakayoko, who has only just left Chelsea as a free agent having not played for the club since 2018.
The midfielder signed for the Blues from Monaco in 2017 for £40m.

Van de Beek?s future remains uncertain. Real Sociedad were eager to sign the Dutchman this summer although recent reports in Spain claim the club have turned their attention to other targets.
