Gary Neville has questioned Manchester United’s decision to sell Anthony Elanga after the Nottingham Forest winger impressed against his former club, starring in a 2-1 victory.

The Sweden international was deemed surplus to requirements in the summer, despite having featured prominently during the early months of Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

Elanga, who cost Forest just 15million, was keen to leave in search of regular first team football and has enhanced his reputation despite his new side’s struggles.

The 21-yerar-old’s rapid improvement has only served to place extra focus on United’s decision to invest so heavily in the likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho, while letting an academy graduate depart for a relatively modest fee.

Antony, meanwhile, lasted just 54 minutes at the City Ground before succumbing to injury and finished 2023 with just one club goal to his name.
