The Rossoneri play a celebratory friendly in Austria ahead of their USA tour and the new manager begins to shape his squad. AC Milan played their first pre-season friendly against Rapid Vienna in the Austrian capital. Paulo Fonseca had his first game at the helm of the Rossoneri and came away with a 1-1 draw thanks to a late equaliser for the opponents.
Both clubs are celebrating their 125th anniversary in 2024 having been founded in 1899. The clubs celebrated the occasion and the Vienna fans put up a celebratory tifo prior to the game.
Alessandro Florenzi opened the scoring in the friendly with a tidy finish in the box from point blank range as he connected with a sublime cross in from Daniel Maldini from the left. Milan conceded right at the death in the 88th minute as a cross went all across the defence and a volley taking some deflections through the defence eventually beat our keeper. Rapid Vienna equalised deservedly as they hit the post multiple times and put us under pressure.
Fonseca?s first ever game in charge ends 1-1 but there are positive signs from the friendly such as the passing play, the confidence of Chukwueze, the understanding of Maldini and the return of Kalulu. A number of youth players made big impressions too and will deliver for Milan Futuro.
