If the Championship, at some point in the future, decides to try and sell itself to an even higher bidder and needs a 96-minute showreel, then it should look no further than City v Boro on Sunday, 27th October 2024.
Okay, so it may not always come with the technical precision of the Premier League, and we don’t have Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher poring over every minute detail, but for thrills, spills and sheer entertainment the Championship at its best – which yesterday was – is impossible to beat.
No one departed Carrow Road feeling short-changed, whether clad in red or yellow and green, nor those watching on Sky’s red button.
Well, I say that. Not quite true. Michael Carrick had the hump; citing how unlucky his team were not to win the game and how superior they were to City for most of the game.
Maybe he had a point. Who cares.
From a City hue, two two-goal comebacks in five days is something we once could have only dreamed of. In the quite recent past, we didn’t do comebacks. And we’re not even talking two-goal deficits. One was usually enough.
It became a theme. A ‘joke’ even. Once City had gone behind, that was it. Heads dropped, both on the pitch and in the stands, and rarely have stirring comebacks been a thing. At least not since 2018-19 when Daniel Farke’s glorious band misfits proved they were do-able. ...
