I didn?t intend to write a MFW column today. And then the FA go and officially appoint Thomas Tuchel as their next England manager.
Cue uproar from the Daily Mail, the Telegraph and many many little Englanders on social media who have developed a very loud and vocal dislike of anyone they deem foreign, which (to them) means anyone speaking with a non-English accent and/or who has different coloured skin to them. Â

Many of those same folk are now up in arms over the FA?s decision. The sheer temerity of appointing someone who has an outstanding CV, a track record of winning things, and who appears very well qualified to try and get a tune out of a talented group of footballers.
The irony is that many of those same people will have been calling for Gareth Southgate?s head because he was ?too cautious? and ?refused to release the handbrake? ? the same one released by Lee Carsley and which concluded in that car crash of a performance against Greece.
The bigger issue, of course, is why England and, by extension, the FA, are unable to produce coaches who are considered good enough and technically proficient enough to be handed the keys to the St George?s Park office marked ?England Men?s Head Coach?.
(The irony is that the senior England women?s team have performed brilliantly under Sarina Wiegman ? a native of the Netherlands, I believe).
