But in the face of a hostile environment, not all of City’s making, Gunn Jnr did the same thing his dad would have done in those same circumstances.
It doesn’t have to be pretty. Goalkeeping rarely is (although the great Kevin Keelan may beg to differ), but when it came to holding the line and using body parts to stop that ball from crossing the white line, Angus stood firm.
It was not lost on Johannes Hoff Thorup, who ensured that Scotland’s number one was front and centre of the post-match celebrations – a complete contrast to Borja Sainz who, with match ball tucked up his shirt, was admonished by the boss for laissez-faire attitude with said ball in the first half. Only a cursory mention of his three brilliant goals.
These are the exacting standards that Thorup and Glen Riddersholm are using to push this team onto ever-increasing levels. Not even the slightest likelihood of any back-slapping. Not in this dressing room.
This is a dressing room that’s in no doubt of its place on the curve. Upward it may be but it’s not even halfway up.
And that’s what makes all of this so exciting for City fans.
