MONDAY MARDLE: Breathless week in Canary World, and a fond farewell
It?s been another of those weeks. So much to write about.
Most weeks, a breathless 3-3 home draw, 12 months unbeaten, a missed penalty and a sending-off would be top of the bill but not this week. But no.
I am actually quite privileged to have this public forum to reflect on the biggest news of the week – the rubber stamping of the accession of The Norfolk Group as majority shareholders in Norwich City.
The privilege comes in the opportunity to reflect back on the ownership of Delia and Michael, and thank them for what they have done for the club.
Their rise to prominence came in dark days for the club. Did they save the club? or was it Geoffrey Watling" It no longer matters. In the years that followed, they did more than their share to keep the club viable.
At the time I lived in Wiltshire. I remember going into a garden centre just outside Chippenham, wearing my Colman?s City shirt, only to be accosted by a lady at the customer service desk.
?I?m Darren?s Mum,? she said proudly.
To be fair, on previous visits I had espied the newspaper cuttings in the back of the booth and so immediately realised it was Mrs. Eadie I was talking to. She pointed out that she saw precious few City fans but was glad I was wearing my shirt because from what she knew, ?the club needs every penny right now?
