NORWICH CITY WOMEN: A better week for Canaries sees cup progression
Another game week down in which Norwich played two matches. The games really are coming thick and fast for the women?s side.
The Canaries began the week looking to bounce back from a draw with Chesham by travelling to AFC Sudbury under the lights on Tuesday.
For the second week running, player of the season Ellie Smith started on the bench at the MEL Group Stadium.
That decision was quickly justified as City instantly tested the Sudbury goalkeeper just minutes after kicking off.
A great ball from last week?s goalscoring hero Ceri Flye found Natasha Snelling in a dangerous position, who flicked the ball to Shannon Shaw only for her shot to be shaved by Nina Heollo in the hosts? goal.
From the resulting corner, Freya Symonds crossed into a leaping Tamsin Medd-Gill for the opener on the five-minute mark.
It?s the summer recruit?s first goal in yellow and green after signing from tier three, Plymouth Argyle.
A good response from the hosts saw Sarah Quantrill called into action, as well as a superb block from Flye to maintain our advantage.
On the half-hour mark though, it should have been two to City. Shannon Shaw saw a guilt-edged opportunity skew wide of the post from within the penalty area.
Both sides struggled to carve out any more clear-cut chances in the first half, with Issy Moore coming the closest but failing to find the target.
