On Monday, we carried reports from Chile explaining that the tide has been turning for Ben Brereton Diaz, and now there’s an increasing number of people in the country’s media taking the side of the Southampton player.
Ricardo Gareca took the Chile job in January, and the Southampton player hasn’t scored for the country since the Argentina coach arrived.
Gareca spoke publicly about Brereton Diaz’s lack of Spanish language skills, but then had to back down from the idea of leaving the striker out until he could converse properly.
There’s a growing number of voices within Chile’s media demanding Brereton Diaz is not only selected more often for the team, but that he’s also played in his actual position. Gareca has been putting him on the wing when he has picked him, and it’s not exactly worked out for anyone involved.
Chile face Bolivia today and the manager has been again been told to pick the Southampton player. BolaVIP quote Patricio Yáñez as saying: “I think it should be Brereton-Vargas, I don’t see any other possibility considering that you’re going to have Dávila and Osorio plus the two full-backs. Brereton going on the outside would be a huge mistake, he has to go as a second attacker.
“Great teams form a tandem and have extraordinary communication. I don?t know if this team has it, but Brereton has to go as an attacker next to Vargas.”
