Newcastle and Stoke flop Joselu set to sign for Real Madrid

Former Newcastle United and Stoke City striker Joselu is set to sign for Real Madrid after Espanyol’s relegation from La Liga, according to report in Spain.
The 33-year-old is enjoying a superb second half of his career after pretty unspectacular with Newcastle, Stoke, Hoffenheim, Hannover and Deportivo La Coruna.
He moved to Alaves in 2019 and enjoyed three good seasons there, scoring 36 goals, before moving to Espanyol last year and having the best campaign of his career, netting 16 times in La Liga.
It was a good season for him in front of goal but a bad one for the team as they were relegated, but that will earn the forward a huge move back to Real Madrid, having been on their books from 2009-12.
Spanish publication Marca report that he has an agreement with Espanyol that he can leave on loan for the forthcoming season, allowing them to get his salary off their wage bill but with the chance to get him back in 2025 if they return to the top flight.
Real Madrid see the veteran as an ideal replacement for the departing Mariano, who is leaving at the end of his contract after five seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Dominican Republic international was by no means a regular in the first team, making 84 appearances over those five years, and scoring 12 goals, but Joselu is being brought in to fill his role as a bit-part player.
