Charlie Eccleshare has said that the fact that Tottenham Hotspur are not in any of the cup competitions has come as a major blow for Dane Scarlett as it has meant that the striker has had to watch on from the sidelines since returning to Spurs.

While the likes of Jamie Donley and Alfie Devine might be the Under-21 stars whom Tottenham fans are most excited by at the moment, Scarlett’s stock has fallen a little over the last 12 months.

The striker failed to hit the expected heights at Portsmouth in League One last season and he did not make a single start for Ipswich Town in the Championship during the first half of this campaign.

Tottenham thus had no choice but to recall the youngster last month and the fact that he had already represented the Lilywhites in the Carabao Cup meant that he could not be loaned out again, with the rules not permitting players to play for three different English clubs in the same season.
Eccleshare has now said on The View from The Lane podcast about the young striker: “Scarlett is probably one of those who has been affected more than guys like Donley because they didn?t have a cup run. He didn?t get those opportunities.

“He turns 20 next month. He?s someone who you just thought was so natural and that?s what everyone says about him, he?s such a natural clinical finisher.”
