According to a report in the print edition of Record (27/04/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Manuel Ugarte’s agent has already started working on a summer move for his client, amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Ugarte has won many admirers since breaking into Sporting’s first team and several publications have backed Tottenham to make a move for the defensive midfielder this summer.

The latest such report came from O Jogo (23/04/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), who suggested that Sporting may have to sell the 22-year-old to balance their books this summer.
The report asserted that Tottenham were ‘convinced’ by Ugarte during their Champions League group stage games against the Portuguese side earlier this season, and asserted that the North London club plan on making a move for the player this summer once they appoint a new manager. Record have now explained that Sporting have failed in an attempt to tie the Uruguayan down to a new contract in an effort to potentially increase his release clause which stands at ?60m (£53m).
The publication reveals that amidst Tottenham’s interest in Ugarte, his agent, Jorge Chijane is set to meet Jorge Mendes to discuss a summer transfer.
However, the publication makes it clear that Sporting will not sell the midfielder unless his release clause is met.
