Ryan Mason is currently taking charge of Tottenham on an interim basis for the second time in his career.

The 31 year-old, who replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho in April 2021 until the end of the season, was once again asked by chairman Daniel Levy to take temporary charge of Spurs following the dismissal of interim boss Cristian Stellini.

Mason went into coaching after being forced to retire from the game following a near-fatal head injury sustained in a game six years ago.

And with Mason taking to the sidelines once again as a manager, memories of Mason?s career being cut short will likely come to the forefront of minds.

Mason suffered the sickening clash of heads with Chelsea?s Gary Cahill during a Premier League match with Hull City in January 2017.

The former midfielder was defending a corner for The Tigers when he collided with Cahill in the 14th minute.

Mason told FourFourTwo in 2018: ?The ball came in, I jumped to head it clear, and suddenly I felt this force crashing through my skull. It was the worst pain imaginable.

?People assume I won?t remember it, but I do. I can remember the doctor running on, the immense pain, going through all the standard checks after any head injury.
