Watford negotiations underway with free agent – Deal could be done quickly
Angelo Ogbonna could be set to stay in England after leaving West Ham United as Watford have opened negotiations with the player.
That?s according to journalist Gianluigi Longari, who reports that the central defender is an option for the Hornets this summer.
Ogbonna left West Ham earlier this summer when his contract expired, bringing an end to an eight-year spell with the Hammers.
At 36-years-old he had been expected to either return to Italy, where he had previously played with Torino, Crotone and Juventus, or perhaps even retire.
It seems there?s now a third option, though, and that is Watford. According to Longari, the Championship side have ?started negotiations? with the defender about a move to Vicarage Road. He adds that ?definition is one step away? but does not explain what this might mean. We read it as that a deal could be done quickly, which would make sense as he?s a free agent after leaving West Ham, but it?s not certain.
Watford certainly don?t need a centre-back as they have seven on their books at present but it appears talks have been opened with the veteran regardless.
