The club?s Copa del Rey run is over Atlético Madrid?s Copa del Rey run came to a devastating end as the team crashed to a humiliating defeat at the hands of Athletic Club, being thrashed 3-0 at San Mamés to take the aggregate score to 4-0 after the first leg defeat earlier in February.
The warning signs were there from the off and Iñaki Williams only needed 12 minutes to put his team in the lead, later setting up his brother Nico to make it two before half-time, with Gorka Guruzeta rubbing salt into the wounds with a third in the second half.

This was supposed to be a big night for Atleti and a chance to provide a season-defining moment that could write some players into the history books. Instead, it?s hard to claim that any of the players on the pitch were salvaged from what will go down as one of the most tragic performances of recent times. Rodrigo de Paul, perhaps, and Koke, maybe, can avoid too much of the criticism, while few can deny that Samuel Lino and Marcos Llorente put in a shift, but nobody stood out for the right reasons. Instead, the woeful performance of Mario Hermoso, who completed only 75% of his passing, or Nahuel Molina, who failed to even take a throw-in properly, will be the ones to remember.
