Napoli manager Antonio Conte insists he was able to make a difference during his time at Tottenham Hotpsur.
On Tuesday, the Serie A side extended the lead at the top of the table by securing a 2-0 win over AC Milan at the San Siro.
After the tie, the manager had a chat with DAZN in Italy, where he talked about his spell at Tottenham. His comments are relayed by Tutto Napoli.
Conte won his first major honours as a manager with Juventus. He went on win silverware with Chelsea and Inter Milan, but didn’t win anything at Spurs.
Tottenham appointed Conte as their manager in November 2021 and he was in charge at the club until March 2023. The manager helped the north London club finish fourth in the table during the 2021/22 season.
Spurs haven’t returned to the Champions League since then and the former Chelsea boss has used this as an example to explain why he did ‘very well’ at Tottenham. DAZN points out to Conte that he won with his previous clubs except Tottenham, who are ‘still struggling’.
Responding to that, he said: “Everyone has to understand where he’s going… I understand that there is always great expectation, but if you then go to a place where there is difficulty anyway.
“I think at Tottenham I didn’t do well, but I did very well, from ninth place we went to the Champions League.”
